This article deals with the situation and development of the jefaturas politicas in different states during the Porfiriato and the Revolution until 1929 from a comparative perspective. The objective is to begin to offer elements that help to understand the functioning of the jefaturas politicas during the Porfiriato, their role in the beginning of the 1910 revolution and how this role affected the jefatura. The article also traces the consequences of the suppression of this institution., as it was ordered by Venustiano Carranza in 1914. The work emphasizes Aguascalientes, which can serve as an example of consequences of the Mexican Revolution in states where there was no uprising in the rural areas.El artículo aborda, desde una perspectiva comparativa, la situación y desarrollo de las jefaturas políticas en diversos estados del país durante el Porfiriato y la Revolución, hasta 1920. El objetivo es comenzar a dar elementos que sirvan para comprender el funcionamiento de las jefaturas políticas durante el Porfiriato; su papel en el inicio de la revolución de 1910 y cómo ésta afectó a las mismas jefaturas. Se intenta, asimismo, rastrear las consecuencias de la supresión de dicha institución, ordenada por Venustiano Carranza en 1914. El trabajo hace énfasis en Aguascalientes, cuyo caso puede servir como ejemplo de las consecuencias que tuvo la Revolución Mexicana en estados donde no hubo levantamientos campesinos violentos.
