This article analyzes the historiographic version that the North American liberal journalist Ernest Gruening offers about the Mexican Revolution in his book Mexico and its fleritage ( 1928). The text is studied by the author in response to president Calles' request of helping him offer the American public a favorable image of Mexico and its Revolution. It describes the way Gruening accommodated the al! the history of Mexico in a liberal narrative sequen ce that ends with a positive image of the Mexican Revolution, a politically usable image. It also analyzes the way Gruening conceived Mexico, the Mexicans and their religion, displaying, sorne of their indigenous attitudes.Este artículo analiza la versión historiográfica que Ernest Gruening, periodista liberal norteamericano ofrece sobre la Revolución Mexicana en su libro México and its heritage (1928). Se estudia el texto como la respuesta del autor a la petición expresa que le hizo el presidente Calles de ayudarle a ofrecer una imagen favorable de México y su Revolución ante el público norteamericano. Se describe la manera en que Gruening acomodó toda la historia de México en una secuencia narrativa de tipo liberal que desemboca en una imagen positiva de la Revolución Mexicana, una imagen políticamente utilizable. Se analiza también la manera en que Gruening concibió a México, a los mexicanos, a su religión, y se muestran algunas de sus actitudes indigenistas.
